Types of Braces

By Rara - Friday, February 07, 2014

First of all, you must consult your orthodontics (dentist specialized in braces) and seek for advice. They will suggest you many types of braces, don't simple tell them you wanna wear braces. Here are things that you may want to ask :

1. Is there any options other than braces?
2. Do I need to wear braces? Why? (Pronounciation, self-esteem, etc)
3. How is my current oral hygienity without braces?
4. What types of brackets are suitable for me? (Basically about materials, wire and so on. Just ask.)
5. How are you going to "stick" the brackets on my tooth? Is it chemically or physically? (There are types of braces which offer you a "clear" braces using a ceramic, which is rather unnoticeable! However, I read that if we use the ceramic one, they will stick the brackets on our teeth chemically = harder for our orthodontic to remove  = risk for us!)
6. Which treatment offers a better hygienity? Which treatment is easier to clean, which one food sticks more, etc
7. Do I need to extract my teeth? If so, how many? Other way than not to?

So now, moving on the type of treatment. I exclude the ceramic one since I've mentioned a bit earlier.

1. The traditional braces
2. Self-ligating
3. Lingual braces
4. Invisalign
5. Currently popular types like Damon

Research and compare. They are different. I firstly thought Damon was good since my only reference is internet but my orthodontics advised me not to because it's not suitable for my jaws.. Hope this helped. Correct me if anything is wrong.. I'm not a dentist, I'm just a dentist's sister.. Haha..

I was planning to wear braces in my third year in Canada but it will cost me almost $7 000 dollar. T_______________T

As it will cost me a fortune, I figured out that I should wait until I graduate! hihi
