A Night With Cadaver // Malam Bersama Mayat

What is a cadaver?

Firstly, it is pronounced as ke (as in cat) da (as in day) ver (as in version).
Cadaver is a real human body used for study. Usually, these bodies are kept in a formalin to be preserved. Students are able to dissect to learn about the anatomy of human body.

Highlight of the orientation week.

I was really keen to know the activity on one particular day which was planned to end at 11 PM. If other activities are the title of talks which will be presented by our lecturer, the activity called "A Night With Cadaver" is to be done by the students of International Medical School Student Association, basically our seniors.

As we all know, there's a tradition (or myths?) in medical school where students will have to spend a night with cadavers to see if they are brave enough to be a doctor. I've never heard or met someone say this is true, but, we'll see how my experience would be!

And yes, although the day has been scheduled, the activity went as planned. Yes, indeed, we are going to spend a night with cadavers. But no sleeping over.

The session starts at 4 o clock, with group activities and we had to come out with our own disease to kill the world population. After Maghrib around 8, we gathered again for night session. We were required to bring a piece of cloth as blind to cover our eyes for the night activity.

The activity started as we enter the dark lecture theater, with some smoke effects, just like a haunted house. Once everyone has seated, we received a video message from the Dean about the disease that has been spreading around the campus. We as the medical students have to find the cure by going through some challenges.

After leaving the dark lecture theater, we needed to put the blind and go to a mysterious place. Though for students who finished any courses in MSU before, the place we were brought was quite obvious, even if our eyes are covered. Hihihh

Basically, there are nine checkpoints and several QR code is left, and we have to find one genuine code with question so that we can proceed to the next checkpoint. It is hidden in places like the senior's bag, or even at the back of the ID. -_-

Checkpoints.

All of the checkpoints are dark, obviously. Parking lot, library, chancellor hall, the questions based on Medicing will lead us to a hint for the next destination.

"Blood was spilled here."

Few months back, there was a murder case occur among the cleaner or guard, I'm not sure. One of the hint brought us there, at level 8 science tower, totally dark and nobody was there. My mentoring group is all girls, everybody held hands to tight.

Suddenly we heard a door sounds, I thought there as somebody, since it's a game, I didn't see anything. Until I don't know why everyone started to run like fight-or-flight reaction. It's not running. It's more like escaping away from being chased by monster. I ran as well because we all held hands. Haha

Until I know why everyone was running. There was a guy with white powder all over his face, wearing white clothes (telekung actually), showing his face out of a small window on a door. Some of my friend told me that she saw "it", but she just ignored. Yeah, that's what we should do..

Counting the bodies in dark.

The second last checkpoint was the dissection room. We had to enter in darkness and count how many cadavers are there. We have to open the contained which contains the cadaver, with all the smell. Heh. Honestly I was quite hesitant but after awhile I'm fine. It's really nothing actually. Haha

The question given was about human body. The senior has the dried cadaver, touching all over it. I learnt that a cadaver is considered a body if it has a head.

To conclude, it was really fun. I enjoy this kind of activity, definitely not the kind of people who avoid. One of the most annoying checkpoint was at the chancellor hall, just imagine we have to find a correct piece of paper around 5 x 5cm, where only one is correct. In that huge hall. Nonetheless, I had a lot of fun! Maybe you can try propose this kind of activity!
